The PSFU MICE Gallery Walk Workshop 2024 explored how the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry creates a powerful chain of economic opportunities across Uganda.
MICE events bring together delegates who need accommodation, transport, food, meeting venues and other services. Hotels benefit from increased occupancy, while tourism companies connect visitors to accommodation and travel experiences. Hotels, in turn, purchase food and supplies from markets, supporting traders, suppliers and local businesses.
This chain continues further. Markets source products from farmers, transport companies move people and goods, and countless workers earn income along the way. As businesses grow and transactions increase, government also benefits through taxes and other revenues.
The workshop highlighted an important message: the impact of MICE goes far beyond the event itself. A single conference or exhibition can create opportunities that flow from hotels and tourism companies to markets, transporters, suppliers and ultimately to the local farmer.
MICE is a connected ecosystem—when one part grows, the entire chain can benefit.
